How does Howsthe.com check if a site is down?
Howsthe.com does a few things to check if a site is down, depending how the monitor is setup. For example if you're not using the phrase search feature then the monitor will request the content of the specified URL, and check the HTTP status code. On the other hand, if you are using the phrase search feature the monitor will do the above and also check the content of the website for the specified phrase.

The phrase specified is case sensitive, so make sure that the phrase used is really on the page with matching case.
